Reading Groups for Grades 2–3

RADLE Learning Launchpad is currently focused on online small-group reading instruction for second- and third-grade learners. Kimberly offers two skill-based groups: Reading Foundations and Reading Growth. Each group meets twice per week on either a Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday schedule.

How to read this page

Both groups are designed for second- and third-grade learners, but placement is based on current reading skills rather than grade alone. Kimberly uses a parent conversation and learning snapshot to recommend the best fit. Schedule placement depends on learner needs and current availability.

Grades 2–3 · Foundations

Reading Foundations Group

Twice-weekly small-group instruction for second- and third-grade readers who need stronger phonics, decoding, word-reading, spelling, and confidence foundations.

Skills that may be addressed

  • Phonemic awareness as needed
  • Phonics and decoding
  • Automatic word recognition
  • Word reading and spelling

Learners who may benefit

Second- and third-grade readers who guess at unfamiliar words, struggle to connect sounds and letters, or need a stronger and more systematic decoding foundation.

Family involvement

Short, guided practice ideas that reinforce the group’s current skills at home without creating unnecessary pressure.

What group sessions may include: Explicit phonics instruction, guided decoding, word-building activities, supported reading practice, and confidence-building review.

Grades 2–3 · Fluency & Comprehension

Reading Growth Group

Twice-weekly small-group instruction for second- and third-grade readers who can decode many words but need support reading smoothly, understanding text, building vocabulary, and expressing ideas.

Skills that may be addressed

  • Reading fluency and expression
  • Vocabulary development
  • Reading comprehension
  • Written response and spelling

Learners who may benefit

Second- and third-grade readers who read slowly or unevenly, lose meaning while reading, or need support discussing and responding to increasingly complex text.

Family involvement

Reading-together ideas, conversation prompts, and simple ways to reinforce the group’s current focus.

What group sessions may include: Guided reading, purposeful rereading, vocabulary work, comprehension discussion, fluency practice, and brief written response.

The initial consultation & learning snapshot

Every family begins with a friendly conversation. Kimberly listens to your goals and questions, then gathers a learning snapshot to understand your child’s current strengths and needs.

From there, she recommends services that make sense for your learner. Kimberly recommends specific services only after learning about the student—so you get guidance that fits, not a generic package.
